AI-Generated Image Revives False Claims That Jeffrey Epstein Is Alive
The Viral Claim and Its Timing
In early February 2026, a photograph began circulating rapidly across X,[1] Facebook,[2] Instagram,[3] and Threads,[4] reigniting one of the internet’s most persistent conspiracy theories: that Jeffrey Epstein is still alive. The image purported to show the disgraced financier walking freely on a street in Tel Aviv, Israel, appearing older, heavier, and sporting a beard and longer hair. Accompanying captions alleged that Epstein’s 2019 death had been staged, claiming Israel had secretly sheltered him while governments and courts knowingly covered up the truth.[5]
The timing of the image’s spread was not accidental. It coincided closely with the US Department of Justice releasing millions of additional pages related to Epstein’s criminal case and network. Although the documents did not challenge the official findings regarding his death, their release reignited public attention, suspicion, and speculation. Within this atmosphere, the image was quickly framed as “new proof” that Epstein had escaped justice and continued to live under protection abroad.
Established Facts About Epstein’s Death
Jeffrey Epstein died in August 2019 while in federal custody in New York, where he was awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His death was officially ruled a suicide by hanging. Since then, multiple investigations have examined the circumstances surrounding it. In 2023, a comprehensive US Justice Department review reaffirmed that conclusion, finding no evidence of homicide or external interference.[1] Medical examiners, prison oversight bodies, and federal authorities have consistently upheld the suicide ruling.
Despite these findings, Epstein’s death has remained a magnet for conspiracy theories, fueled by the scale of his crimes, his connections to powerful individuals, and documented failures within the jail system. Each new release of documents or media coverage has repeatedly trig

Despite these findings, Epstein’s death has remained a magnet for conspiracy theories, fueled by the scale of his crimes, his connections to powerful individuals, and documented failures within the jail system. Each new release of documents or media coverage has repeatedly triggered fresh waves of misinformation, with claims often resurfacing unchanged but repackaged with new visuals or narratives.
Tracing the Origin of the Image
CyberPoe conducted a detailed provenance analysis of the circulating photograph. Reverse image searches traced the earliest known appearance of the image to February 1, 2026, on Reddit, specifically within the subreddit “r/hardaiimages.” This community is explicitly
dedicated to sharing AI-generated visuals.[1] In its original, uncropped form, the image clearly displayed Google Gemini’s distinctive sparkle watermark in the corner, a visible indicator that the image was created using Google’s generative AI tools.
In comment threads beneath the original Reddit post, the user who shared the image openly acknowledged that it was artificial. When other users questioned whether it depicted Epstein, the poster responded by reminding them that the subreddit hosts AI-generated content only. In multiple replies, the same user confirmed that they personally generated the image using Google Gemini and expressed surprise that it later spread far beyond the AI-focused forum.
Technical Evidence of Artificial Generation
Beyond its traceable origin, the image contains both visible and invisible technical markers confirming it is not a real photograph. Google’s SynthID system, an invisible digital watermark embedded in content generated by Google AI tools, was detected in versions of the image that had been cropped to remove the visible Gemini watermark. Independent reverse image tools also flagged the picture as “made with Google AI.”
Visual analysis further undermines its authenticity. Several background elements do not align with real-world Israeli street infrastructure. A traffic light in the image displays a green signal at the top position, contrary to standard traffic light configurations where green appears at the bottom. Road signage purporting to identify Tel Aviv contains flawed Hebrew rendering and conspicuously lacks Arabic text, which is typically present on official signage in Israel. These inconsistencies reflect common limitations of AI image generators, which often reproduce environments convincingly at first glance while failing on contextual and regulatory details.
How the Image Was Reframed
Once removed from its original Reddit context, the image was reposted across platforms without any disclosure of its artificial origin. Cropped versions eliminated the Gemini watermark, stripping away the most obvious sign of AI generation. Reposted alongside captions asserting that Epstein had been “spotted alive,” the image was rapidly absorbed into long-standing conspiracy narratives alleging global cover-ups, intelligence agency involvement, and secret safe havens.
This pattern is increasingly common in the generative AI era. Synthetic images created for entertainment, experimentation, or satire can be detached from their source and repurposed as supposed evidence, particularly when they align with beliefs already held by certain online communities.
Why the Claim Resonated
The renewed circulation of Epstein-related documents created an environment of heightened distrust and curiosity. For audiences predisposed to believe official narratives are incomplete or deceptive, the image appeared to offer visual confirmation of long-held suspicions. The emotional weight of Epstein’s crimes, combined with the perception that powerful figures avoided accountability, lowered skepticism and accelerated sharing.
In such moments, AI-generated imagery can function as an accelerant, giving abstract conspiracies a tangible form that feels more convincing than text alone.
CyberPoe Verdict
The image claiming to show Jeffrey Epstein alive in Israel is entirely fabricated. It originated from an AI-focused online forum, carries both visible and invisible markers linked to Google’s Gemini tools, and was openly acknowledged as synthetic by its creator. There is no credible evidence that Epstein survived his death in 2019, and the image does not document a real person or event.
This case highlights how generative AI is increasingly used to visually reinforce conspiracy theories, especially during periods of renewed public attention. As synthetic imagery becomes more realistic and easier to repurpose, careful source verification and scrutiny of digital provenance are essential to prevent fiction from masquerading as proof.
