Old Dance Video Falsely Linked to Alleged Hack of FBI Director Kash Patel’s Email
The Claim
In late March 2026, social media posts began circulating a video[1] claiming it showed FBI Director Kash Patel dancing, allegedly leaked after Iranian hackers breached his personal email account. The posts appeared across Facebook,[2] X,[3] Instagram,[4] Threads,[5] and YouTube,[6] often accompanied by captions asserting that a pro-Iranian hacking group had released embarrassing personal material belonging to the U.S. official.
One widely shared post stated that Iranian hackers had accessed Patel’s Gmail account, extracted files from his Google Drive, and published them online.[7] The posts further claimed that the U.S. Department of Justice had confirmed the breach and verified the authenticity of the leaked material.
The viral video shows a man dancing energetically to a Bollywood song, performing dramatic gestures and movements reminiscent of classic Indian film choreography. Social media users circulated the clip as supposed proof of newly leaked footage from Patel’s account, implying that it surfaced only after the alleged cyberattack.
The claim gained traction after the Handala Hack Team, a pro-Iranian hacktivist group, said on March 27, 2026, that it had accessed an email account belonging to Kash Patel and released certain personal materials online.[8] The FBI later acknowledged that malicious actors had targeted Patel’s personal email information, stating that the agency had taken steps to mitigate potential risks.
While some personal photos attributed to Patel did appear online including images of him smoking cigars and posing with an antique car the viral dance video circulating alongside these claims is unrelated.
What CyberPoe Verified
Digital tracing shows that the video predates the alleged email hack by several years and has no connection to Kash Patel.
Reverse image searches reveal that the same footage has been available online since at least July 2020, long before Patel became FBI director and years before the 2026 cyber incident.
Several early uploads appear on YouTube[1] and other platforms, where the clip is presented simply as a humorous dance video.
Descriptions accompanying those early uploads explain that the man in the clip is dancing to “Sun Sahiba Sun,” a song performed by legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar. The track originates from the 1985 Bollywood romantic drama film “Ram Teri Ganga Maili.”
In the movie, the song accompanies a memorable dance sequence featuring actress Mandakini, whose choreography appears to inspire the exaggerated movements imitated by the man in the viral clip. Online plot summaries of the film describe the story as following a woman attempting to reunite with her husband after he returns to his family home.
The dance video circulated periodically on social media over the years as a comedic or meme clip. Notably, the footage reappeared in 2022, again without any association with Kash Patel or U.S. political figures.
Visual comparison also shows that the person dancing in the video does not resemble Patel, and there is no credible evidence linking the footage to the FBI director or to the materials allegedly leaked during the hacking incident.
CyberPoe Verdict ❌
False / Misattributed video.
The dancing clip circulating online does not show FBI Director Kash Patel and is not part of any material leaked from his hacked email account. The video has been publicly available since at least 2020 and simply shows a man dancing to a Bollywood song from the 1985 film “Ram Teri Ganga Maili.”
The footage is being misrepresented online to exploit news surrounding the alleged hacking of Patel’s email account. As often happens during major geopolitical events or cyber incidents, unrelated content is repurposed and shared with misleading claims to attract attention or spread misinformation.
